New metro stations

Some time ago I complained about the access for disabled people to the metro near the Swissotel. Well, guess, one day I went back and saw some funny rails, see the pics from Dongsishitiao Line 2.

Turns out, they did install a special rail to transport wheelchairs. The only question is how and when it can be operated. Not exactly “user-friendly” on a normal day but again, I might be wrong.

See also here how the new Line 10 looks like – and the new bomb disposal units, a more war-like model.

World Trade Center Tower 3

With a height of 330 meter, Beijing’s tallest building. It is one of the towers of the China World Trade Center and from my library it also serves as a measurement of pollution.

These pics were all taken on REAL blue sky days. Obviously.
For non-Beijing residents, it is also right in the middle of the CBD.

CCTV Tower: going up (somehow)

CCTV tower is now becoming more visible in the CBD (Central Business District) skyline. Now the hard part is coming – joining both ends of the horizontal top structure.

See here some recent pics. If you don’t understand them, you are excused. The building is kinda “special”. You have to admit, Chinese construction companies can build anything.

Construction: new opera and CCTV

Some people are wondering what is happening with the new Beijing Opera (as we call it). As it seems, very little. The rumor is, no events are planned, Beijing still thinks it can order events when in the international world of opera and ballet booking must be done years in advance. I just took this picture ago from another angle. You can say what you want but I join the large crowd that is unimpressed with the dinosaur egg. Totally out of place. Had it been in the Olympic Green, next to the National Stadium and Watercube I think it could have been great.

Now it reminds me of a large aircraft hangar next to the Great Hall of the People. Judge for yourself. Sorry, Paul Andreu, nothing personal.
In the meantime CCTV Tower is emerging. No, nothing wrong with the picture and the building is not going to fall down. That’s the way it is.

For the moment this is how China World Trade Center (I and II) now look, with China World Hotel in the middle. Waiting for China World Trade Center Tower 3 to raise up, to be the tallest building in Beijing – 302 m when it will be finished in 2008. See earlier blog entry for pic of the construction.
